The Nokia E90 Communicator is the latest in a long line of communicator devices, and is the replacement for the Nokia 9500 which was announced three years ago.To say that the E90 is "long awaited" would be an understatement. One of the weaknesses of the 9500 and the 9300 and 9300i devices derived from it was a lack of 3G support, and the E90 now adds that. But it's more that just a port of the old Communicator platform to 3G, the Nokia E90 also adds a GPS receiver and integrated navigation application, a 3.2 megapixel camera, FM radio and a significantly improved screen. As with the 9500, the Nokia E90 retains WiFi support and has a full QWERTY keyboard (although the keyboard has been improved in the E90).Inside the E90 is a display with an impressive 800x352 pixels resolution in 16 million colours, not unlike the panel on the Nokia N800, this is up from 640x200 pixels on the earlier models. The external display is now 240x320 pixels (up from 128x128), and pretty much all of the E90's functions can be controlled from the front cover, rather than the 9500/9300/9300i which allowed access to basic phone functions only. The 800 pixel wide display is ideal for no-compromise web access, although it doesn't have touchscreen support.Of course, the E90 bears the "Communicator" name for a reason, and it comes with a wide range of communications options. Email support includes standard SMTP/POP3 protocols, various push email options, instant messaging and it even comes with a text-to-speech reader. Network support is quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) plus 2100 MHz UMTS (3G), GPRS and EDGE. Significantly, the Nokia E90 does include HSDPA support allowing for download speeds of up to 3.6Mbit/sec. On top of this the E90 comes with 802.11g WiFi. It's hard to fault the E90 in terms of the networks it supports, but one omission is the ability to work with UMTS networks on anything other than the 2100 MHz band, which limits its 3G use in the US and some other countries.More controversially, the Nokia E90 includes a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash. Many business do not like cameras in their business phones, and for some it was an issue with the 9500 (which had a VGA resolution camera) which was resolved with the camera-less 9300. There's also a secondary camera for video calling. As with previous models, the Nokia E90's software capabilities are impressive. It includes a document editor called Quickoffice, can view Microsoft Office documents, work with Zip files and PDFs and there's a comprehensive set of Personal Information Management tools. Because this is an S60 device, more applications can be added.. although most will need to be adapted for the E90's display.Another important feature is the Nokia E90 Communicator's inbuilt GPS function. This allows for more than just basic location-based services, as Nokia are going to make it's "Nokia Maps" application available. Although this seems to be a free SatNav (satellite navigation) package, it's worth remembering that a lot of the value added features require a network connection which might incur data costs. On top of all the other features, the Nokia E90 Communicator is also a multimedia phone, with support for MP3 and AAC audio plus video clips. There's even an FM radio. Data and media clips can be stored on microSD cards with a maximum capacity of 2GB.In conclusion, the Nokia E90 Communicator is possibly the most feature packed handset we've even seen with surprisingly few compromises. It's big for a phone, but tiny for a GPS enabled multimedia computer. At Mobile Gazette, we've been a big fan of the Communicator series, and you can bet that we'll be eager to get our hands on this latest incarnation.

Lg kg290

The LG KG290 is one of the best-looking budget handsets on the market and it's certainly not lacking in features thanks to the MP3 player, FM tuner and Bluetooth support. With its silver finish, smooth sliding action and petite dimensions, the KG290 is certainly one of the tastiest-looking budget handsets we've seen in a long time. The phone is also pretty easy to use as its main menu is laid out as a typical 3x3 grid of icons. It looks and feels very similar to the menus on the latest Sony Ericsson or Nokia handsets, so most people will instantly feel right at home. LG has also added a handy shortcut menu to the standby screen, which assigns functions to the four direction keys of the central D-pad. It gives you almost instant access to things like the text message screen, silent mode or contacts book. For a budget phone, this handset certainly isn't short of features. Most of the cheaper handsets around at the moment have VGA cameras, but LG has kitted this one out with a 1.3-megapixel shooter. The photos aren't up to the standards of a real digital camera, but they're much better than most of its rivals can produce. As well as the camera, you also get an MP3 player and FM tuner. The supplied stereo headphones actually sound pretty good and they also have an in-line mic and call-answer buttons so they double as a hands-free kit.The phone's reception was generally excellent and the call quality was also very impressive. The KG290 also supports Bluetooth, so you can hook it up to a wireless headset or car kit.

Imate ultimate 9502

The i-mate 9502 is the bright 2.8-inch touchscreen that occupies most of the front panel. The generous 640x480 resolution means you can really enjoy multimedia content on this phone.Unlike its smaller sibling, the i-mate Ultimate 8502, the QWERTY keyboard on the 9502 is hidden underneath a sliding screen. While it's quite small, raised keys means typing is acceptable. In a similar manner to the iPhone, the 9502 automatically detects which way the phone is oriented and tips the screen accordingly. The inclusion of a stylus stops the screen getting covered in fingerprints, and in case you lose the stylus, the 9502 even comes with a spare. A handy button is placed at the bottom of the screen that provides a shortcut to the "soft" touchscreen keypad.

LG KG 920

The KG920 is one funny looking device, reminding me of a 1960s impression of a future walkie-talkie. The design is one of a kind, and you either like it or hate it. It is ironic that neither the front nor the back looks too much like a phone. The front looks like a lab machine full of buttons, and the back looks like a digital camera, with a manual lens cover, LED lamp, and Xenon flash. The device is definitely not the smallest around, but at the same time, it might not be as big as you think. In fact, it is just about the same size as the Nokia N73, and as heavy as a Sharp 903. The exact measurements are shown in the table to the right. The KG920 consists of two parts joined by a rotating hinge. The top part includes the screen on the front and the battery on the back, and the lower part houses the keypad on the front and camera module on the back. As opposed to the rotating Nikon cameras and the Nokia 3250, the lens is directly behind the keypad, instead of on the edge of the device. If you wish to take self-portraits, you can simply rotate the camera around 180 degrees. The screen and the camera will now be on the same face. If you are a keen photographer, the rotating mechanism also allows you to take pictures from a very low angle. I am happy to report that the hinge feels extremely solid, just like the rest of the phone. With the included Xenon flash, the KG920 is also great for party pictures. The front of KG920 is a mess of buttons. The three soft keys are placed on top of the numeric keypad, whereas the d-pad and cancel button are to the right, similar to the newer LG U400. Obviously, this arrangement is more favorable to right handed people. Considering the overall size of the phone, the buttons are quite small (number keys are 6mm x 3mm, or 0.24" x 0.12"). Thanks to the strong tactile feedback, the keypad may be acceptable if you have small fingers. The worrying part, however, is the paint on the handset - including both the body and the buttons. The pea-shaped softkeys are quite hard to press, and you might risk scratching off the paint if you use your fingernails. After a week of careful usage, I have managed to scratch the battery cover and the rim around the screen. The shutter button and volume keys are all kept on one side, leaving the miniSD slot, headset jack and power/data connector on the opposite side. Next to the 2" screen on the front are four more backlit buttons. Depending on what mode the phone is in, these are shortcut keys for the MP3 player, calendar, camera flash, timer settings, or digital zoom. The whole keypad is illuminated orange, and in dark settings, the light is even and more than sufficient.

Sonyericson c902

Sony Ericsson announced the C-line. While we had a few wild guesses on what it is for, the answer is the most logical: the C stands for Cyber-shot. The camera-dedicated models of the manufacturer will now be positioned in this line and these two start it. As its first digit shows, the c902 is the high-end model of the line and in this aspect can be considered as the successor of the k850. It has slimmed down to 0.4" (10.5mm) from 0.7" (17mm) which is 40% less - Great Success! While the resolution for the photos isn't increased from 5-megapixels, the interface has evolved. Previously the right column of keys (four) was dedicated to camera functions once its interface was turned on. Now, there are two rows that are also illuminated in blue - one above and one below the display (left and right when in vertical orientation). These keys are touch sensitive and conceal when the camera isn't used; they cover pretty much the most commonly used features, and going to the setting menu will be limited. However, if you do, you will notice the new feature called ‘Face
